Rays, Loney agree on three-year deal

Oh, yes, this is good news!

Never forget Sam Fuld. Never mind the legend...

Two beautifully written pieces, one about and one by him. This early catch showed us someone special had arrived. He always plays like it counts. I will miss his bunting bat and secret smile. But wait! There's still hope. Topkin writes: "Executive vice president Andrew Friedman said they would remain in contact with and are open to re-signing both Fuld and Wright. " Okay. That was close. Sam's the perfect Ray....

4 Rays finalists for Gold Gloves

Topkin in Tampa reports:

"Manager Joe Maddon suggested at various points during the season that all four of the Rays infielders were having Gold Glove caliber seasons.

He was correct, as on Friday, all four were named among three AL finalists at their positions:
  • 1B James Loney,
  • 2B Ben Zobrist,
  • SS Yunel Escobar and
  • 3B Evan Longoria.
Winners will be announced Tuesday night."

HEY RAYS! Meet Price's Price.

Rays! You want attendance?? Keep David Price. Don't make Price be a Cub or a RedSock. Shields isn't Shields as a Royal.

Good-bye and good night.

Need to learn to hit up the lines, not up the middle. Go Dodgers!

Monday, October 7, 2013

A nerve-wracking game we could barely watch, Rodney trying to give away the farm again, and Cobber shaky from the get-go. But when the Wolf came up with another walkoff -- into the fishtank.... WOW!  I have petted those animals, it's one of the most fun things you can do at the Trop.

Great story here. Plus, where my freaking postgame show, Fox??? Oh, and happy bd homerun, Evan!

Rays catcher Jose Lobaton rounds the bases after hitting the game winning home run in the ninth inning in Game 3 of an ALDS game in St. Pete. The Rays defeated the RedSox 5-4. Photo by Mike Carlson, AP Photo

Glad to see Carl back in form. The bad throws by Gonzalez and Ellis, and the wild pitch, conspired to help Atlanta even the score in the fourth after Crawford’s two home runs had staked the Dodgers to a 2-0 lead.

Sox hit with an ugly stick

Pretty sure the Rays are struggling against Boston because they can't get past how really really UGLY  the RedSox players are. It's like playing against duck hunters. This is so gross. Shave now, idiots! How are you even getting laid? No pix for this post. (Yeah, if everyone looked like Wil Myers... {sigh}

The Zorilla in left field

Way more than five tools....

David Price is the first starting pitcher to beat the Red Sox at Fenway Park twice in five days since Rip Collins (St. Louis Browns) in 1931.

David Price makes pitching look easy.
Last week, David Price pitched a five-hitter for his third complete game of the season. Oh yeah, then and last night, no walks. I mean, no walks. That's amazing. And afterwards, he always credits the team for the win. I love me some David Price. Still.

Some newsguy seems to think he has a girlfriend, too. Or at least last November.

Oh, and this too. Again.

Most runners stranded...

Not sure if this is a real statistic, but David Price wasn't pitching his best, but he hunkered down, got the outs, and left 10 Orioles on base, 5, I think, in scoring position.  Left the bases loaded twice. Pity that he had to get that far, but holy cow! pitched his way out. Gotta stat for that?

This guy just keeps shooting himself in the foot...

Or maybe it's the butt. So tired of this story already.  Should add on extra suspension games for talking about it to the media.  MLB not any better, Selig still sux, better make all this "evidence" public, so we know why we the fans have been so brutalized. And Yankees ripped off.

To me, email, phone messages, and appointment books sound like circumstantial evidence. Needles with DNA or camera footage seems more real. Or a confession. Players' Assn needs to fix this too... doesn't make them look any better that MLB can impose sanctions outside the contract. Why are grown men & U.S. govt spending all this time and money on this issue? It's not like they're losing money or anything... It's not like the NFL or NBA doesn't have these problems either. It's just the new pharmacological reality of sports. I don't mind, it's their bodies.

I love me some Wil Myers!

He almost makes me not miss Shieldsy. (Almost.)

"Myers hit his first career home run, a grand slam, on June 22, 2013 off of New York Yankees pitcher CC Sabathia at Yankee Stadium during a 7-5 loss. His first hit at home was a home run off of Toronto Blue Jays starter Esmil Rogers at Tropicana Field in St. Petersburg, FL on June 24, 2013, as part of a series of back-to-back-to-back home runs by James Loney, Myers, and Sam Fuld."(Wiki)

So close...

Joyce gets drilled by Lackey, benches clear, but ump needed to yank Lackey, not just warn him. It was obvious his painful pitch was intended to hurt.

If the umps do their job, Rays win.

What? Fernando Rob Me?

Last year, you couldn't wait till this guy got the call. This year, blow, blow, blow, blow, blow.

Monday, April 22, 2013

Ryan who? Mooooore...

Two homers & a single off Sabathia? Really? What's up with that?

Oh, yeah. And this guy? 4 and 0. Oh.

"Major League Baseball has uncovered what they believe is evidence that a representative of New York Yankees third baseman Alex Rodriguez purchased medical records from Biogenesis -- the South Florida anti-aging clinic that allegedly provided performance-enhancing drugs to several major league players, according to Michael S. Schmidt of The New York Times."

The original New Times story is here.

We wuz robbed!

Here it is... even the other team thought it was a ball...  One wonders, since it ended up being Joe Nathan's 300th save, if the umps just wanted to give it to him last night.
It's the red one, outside the lower left hand corner of the box. That's the called "strike."

I'll let this guy tell the sob story.
What really galls is that the ump admits the bad call the next day, when nothing can be done about it. I say, bottom of the 9th, potential for changing the score, 2 outs.... use the freakin' replay.  I know the umps are a "wild card" part of the game, but flagrant miscalls against one side and not the other is just plain cheating. And we know how much MLB cares about that!

Plus... Niemann's out. Whew.

A. L. East

Holy cow. Keith Olbermann is on the Rays bandwagon, too. Interesting analyses. Except today, he's got the Rays losing the Series to the GNats. {Do not read the comments.} He references this Topkin article on how the Rays work.

But you know what they say about opinions.

This does not compute.

Opening day pitcher for Kansas City. Dog my catz.
Too bad, Shieldsy. Hate losing those 1-run squeakers. Looks like it was a good game, a little chilly for you...

What do we see here?  I'm biased toward the American League East (you've seen the best, who cares about the rest?); once a Ray, always a Ray; no Red Sox, ever (except when Johnny Damon became a Yankee, then a Ray, so his Boston mojo got wiped); I totally believe that Carl Crawford is a superior baseball player & I always want him on my team (except when he was a Red Sox) -- if he can only get healed, he's got many more great years in front of him.  And always Ben Zobrist (Zorilla forever!)

Super Sam Me

DRaysbay recaps the Legend of Sam Fuld.

Desperate for baseball news...

Still, nice to remember the Yankees used to play in Fort Lauderdale.

The stadium is still there, empty though since the Orioles re-located.  Too bad the city government didn't see how much tourism they brought to town. Now, not so many baseball fans.
